Background
Our client is a major North
American engineering consulting organization, with its
head office in Toronto and with a significant presence
throughout Canada and the United States. In the
Province of Alberta, its offices are located in Edmonton
and in Calgary. The firm provides one-stop consulting
engineering services to its clients. Our client has
experienced tremendous growth in its business in Alberta
over the past five years, resulting in it having reached
the stage of being a major player in the engineering
consulting business in the Province.
An important component of the range
of services offered to its clients is in the area of
infrastructure development. A decision has been made
to further enhance the business focus and technical
capability of the firm, in the industrial infrastructure
area, by establishing the newly created position of
Industrial Infrastructure Practice Leader in the Calgary
office.
Critical Components of the
Position
The specific challenges the new
Industrial Infrastructure Practice Leader will take on
include:
1. Establishing new business
clients in industrial site infrastructure development
in refineries, oil sands, forestry,, petrochemicals, as
well as the resources services industries.
2. Building the staff capability
in the industrial infrastructure engineering area.
3. Managing all aspects of client
interface.
4. Managing the project planning
design and implementation phases of all projects.
5. Liaising with approval
agencies.
6. Handling construction and
contract administration.
Candidate Profile
The person our client is seeking is
an individual who has the following qualifications and
attributes.
1. Civil or Mechanical
Engineering Degree or equivalent technical designation
from a recognized institution.
2.. 5 – 15 years experience in
the design of civil, underground piping, all
buildings and related industrial infrastructure on an
industrial site. It is essential that this experience
be in one or more of petrochemicals, refineries, oil
sands, and/or forestry areas.
3. Strong business development
skills.
4. Strength in leading and
dealing with design teams, clients and approval
agencies.
5. A real leader, capable of
contributing to strategic planning as well
as motivating staff to perform to high levels.
6. Familiarity with Planning,
Scheduling, Cost Control, AUTOCAD and LDD design tools
would be essential.
