Bridge Engineer
Position Challenge /
Qualification Profile
Position Summary: Reporting
to the Transportation Manager, your main focus will be
providing structural facility design services to the
Calgary Office, Transportation Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide structural analysis, calculations and
prepare design sketches and drawings indicating
arrangement and design intent for bridges and other
structures
- Prepare documentation related to current or
prospective projects, including quality assurance;
correspondence, reports, proposals, expressions of
interest, specifications and meeting minutes
- Engage sub-consultants for assistance on design
projects
- Review and assess proposals and reports
- Supervise technical staff in preparation of
structural design drawings , specifications and
reports
- Establish and monitor project objectives for
technical staff
- Carry out some project management activities such
as project team coordination, develop and monitor work
schedules and manpower allocations to ensure
objectives of design quality, cost and schedule are
attained
- Communicate and work with other project team
members to provide quality and timely service to
clients to ensure that all the documentation conforms
to client/company standards
- Review and comment on reports and designs prepared
by other consultants agencies and departments
- Communicate with clients, sub-consultants,
approving agencies, etc. for purposes of obtaining
design information, presenting design alternatives and
expediting approvals
- Promote the company to current and potential
clients in order to generate future business
- Liaise/co-ordinate with other
disciplines/departments in preparation of proposals,
reports and design packages for multi-disciplinary
projects
- Check drawings and quantities
- Construction inspection/administration
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural
Engineering
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering (preferred)
- Registered Professional Engineer in Alberta
(APEGGA), or eligible for registration
- Five years directly related Structural/Bridge Engineering
experience (post P.Eng.)
- Strategic, analytical and practical thinker
- Excellent presentation, facilitation and writing
skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Practical experience in both urban and rural
design (preferred)
- Knowledge of, and experience with the application
of Alberta/Canadian structural design standards
(Bridge Structures Design Criteria for Alberta ,
CAN/CSA S6-00 Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code,
etc.)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation (desirable)
- Previous consulting experience an asset
- Valid Driver's License
