Transportation Planner
Position Challenge /
Qualification Profile
Position Summary: Reporting
to the Transportation Manager, your main focus will be
providing transportation planning services to the
Calgary Office, Transportation Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide clients with transportation planning
services, including work on: functional planning
studies; public engagement facilitation; traffic
impact studies; transportation master plan studies;
environmental assessments for transportation
facilities; parking studies; traffic data
collection/analysis; traffic calming studies; safety
assessments; and transportation study peer reviews
- Prepare documentation related to current or
prospective projects, including quality assurance;
correspondence, reports, proposals, expressions of
interest, specifications and meeting minutes
- Carry out some project management activities such
as project team coordination, monitoring schedule and
budget compliance and assisting with invoice
preparation
- Communicate and work with other project team
members to provide quality and timely service to
clients to ensure that all the documentation conforms
to client/company standards
- Liaise with and assist other firm departments and
offices in the provision of transportation planning
services to clients
- Co-ordinate environmental assessment processes for
planning studies
- Manage environmental specialists (on staff or
sub-consultant) contributing to projects
- Research (literature and field work) and preparing
planning reports
- Prepare for and participate in Public Information
Centres
- Meet with clients and prepare deliverables for
clients
- Undertaking mapping/GIS work
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation Engineering,
Planning or related discipline
- Five years of relevant experience in
transportation planning
- MCIP or RPP designation (or working towards)
- Excellent technical and analytical skills
- Excellent project management skills with respect
to completing projects and proposals on time and on
budget
- Strategic, analytical and practical thinker
- Excellent presentation, facilitation and writing
skills
- Practical experience with traffic data collection,
modeling and analysis
- Practical experience in traffic operations
analysis using Highway Capacity Manual and Canadian
Capacity Guide methodologies and related software
(HCS, Synchro, CCG) (desirable)
- Knowledge of, and experience with the application
of Alberta/Canadian traffic engineering standards
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Previous consulting experience an asset
- Valid Driver's License
