Transportation Engineer
Position Challenge /
Qualification Profile
Position Summary: Reporting
to the Transportation Manager, your main focus will be
providing transportation engineering services to the
Calgary Office, Transportation Department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide clients with traffic engineering
transportation planning services, including work on:
traffic impact studies ; transportation master plan
studies; environmental assessments for transportation
facilities; parking studies; traffic data
collection/analysis; traffic calming studies; traffic
signal justification reviews; safety assessments;
transportation study peer reviews and design of
traffic control devices
- roadway facility functional, preliminary and
detailed design services, including work on: rural
highways; urban freeways and roadways; intersection
design; guiderails, signing, pavement markings,
profiles, cross sections, and estimating quantities
- Prepare documentation related to current or
prospective projects, including correspondence,
reports, proposals, expressions of interest,
specifications and meeting minutes
- Carry out some project management activities such
as project team coordination, monitoring schedule and
budget compliance and assisting with invoice
preparation
- Communicate and work with other project team
members to provide quality service to clients to
ensure that all the documentation conforms to
client/company standards
- Promote the company to current and potential
clients in order to generate future business
- Liaise with and assist other firm departments and
offices in the provision of roadways facility design
services to clients
- Checking drawing and quantities
- Constructions inspection/administration
- other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering (preferred)
- Registered Professional Engineer in Alberta
(APEGGA), or eligible for registration
- Registered Professional Traffic Operations
Engineer (PTOE) (preferred)
- Five years experience in traffic engineering,
traffic operations and transportation planning
- Strategic, analytical and practical thinker
- Excellent presentation, facilitation and writing
skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Demonstrated experience with geometric design of
roadway facilities
- Practical experience with traffic data collection,
modeling and analysis, traffic impact assessments,
traffic signal timing development, parking studies,
urban and rural intersection design and capacity
analysis, and freeway weaving analysis
- Practical experience in traffic operations
analysis using Highway Capacity Manual and Canadian
Capacity Guide methodologies and related software
(HCS, Synchro, CCG) (desirable)
- Knowledge of and experience with the application
of Alberta/Canadian traffic engineering standards
(Geometric Design Standards for Alberta Highways, TAC
Geometric Design Guide, Manual on Uniform Traffic
Control, etc.)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Experience with AutoCAD, VISSIM, Paramics,
Tmodel/2, EMME/2, TransCAD, SIDRA, RCADY (desirable)
- Microstation, Auto Turn (desirable)
- Previous consulting experience an asset
- Valid Driver's License
