The Position Challenge / Qualification Profile

Manager  of Transportation Calgary

Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting, to the Vice President for Western Canada in the Calgary office, your primary responsibilities include project management and business development responsibilities for transportation in the Southern Alberta area. This includes undertaking and managing transportation planning, transportation design, transportation safety studies, traffic analysis, traffic signal design and operations review, parking studies, asset management studies, municipal works operations studies and functional planning studies. You will also participate in a team approach for best use of the firm's technical resources for transportation in Western Canada. Your other responsibilities will include the following:
 
  • Coordinate firm Transportation activities for Southern Alberta in concert with other corporate offices
  • Undertake technical analysis, including developing new methods and techniques, to complete complex or unique studies
  • Preparation of reports, proposals, and other documentation for clients, review agencies, and the public
  • Assist technical staff with roadway designs for municipal projects where required
  • Assign, direct, and review work undertaken by technical staff to ensure that studies and projects are completed to a high degree of accuracy and to firm Standards for the Calgary office
  • Project management responsibilities including financial management of projects
  • Assist with traffic safety and specialty projects, as expertise and availability permit
  • Manage staff for technical project activities, assist with staff development, and provide input and recommendations relative to staff needs, performance, and remuneration.
     
Qualifications:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Alberta with 10 years experience in Transportation Planning, Design and Traffic Engineering in a consulting engineering environment
  • Experience in leading a team of technical specialists and professional engineers
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills
  • Transportation planning and design project lead experience
  • PTOE designation or desire to acquire this designation
  • Experience and desire to market our services to new and existing clients
  • Experience in managing IT services would be considered an asset.
     

In addition to having the technical background required, the individual should possess strong interpersonal communication and team skills.
